Still catching up

It’s taking me quite a while to re-enter normal life, now that the holidays are over. All of December passed in a bit of a blur, so it’s actually a little nice to settle back into a schedule. Or at least it would be, if it weren’t that January is going to be full of disruptions too, this time because of travel. I’m off to a conference in Montreal on Thursday, coming back on Monday. Then I’m off again the next Sunday, for an interview, back on Tuesday; meanwhile Mark will be gone from Monday to Wednesday, also for an interview. And then on the Friday I’ll be off for another interview, back on Monday night. And then, I think, we won’t be travelling for a while. But I’ll have lots of prep to do for these trips, since I need to give job talks and teach classes and things.

For now, though, I should really wrap up my holiday reportinng by mentioning the knitting-related gifts I received. My mom gave me Stitch ‘n Bitch, which I’m ashamed to say I didn’t have. Now I feel like one of the cool kids… though there are still many “must-have” books I don’t have! As well, Mark gave me Traditional Knitted Lace Shawls, full of beautiful ideas for shawls… now I just need the time and the yarn! I also think there might be a couple more things coming — Mark and I got each other items from our Amazon wish lists this year, since we were short on both cash and time. But we both waited too long to order, and so only a couple of items made it here in time for Christmas day. So now I have the fun of anticipating more surprises in the mail!

I must get back to writing my job talk… wish me luck!

Good luck!

I’m still at the applying stage, so it’s nice to hear that people I know get interviews.

You’ll do great.

Many congratulations to you both on interviews! That’s such great news! Good luck to you both, I hope something comes through!

Good luck, Aven! I’ve got that traditional shawl book but I haven’t made anything from it yet.

I am tagging you. Lucky girl. The meme is: List 5 weird things about yourself, tag five other people to do the same, and then comment on their blogs that they have been tagged. Have fun!

These are virtual chain letters, aren’t they?
