Voting

I’ve been thinking about Steph’s discussion of the upcoming election. I can’t (and wouldn’t) tell anyone how they must vote, but I thought I would share my views on the matter.

I voted (in the advance polls) yesterday.

I didn’t vote for the candidate I thought would win. I didn’t vote for the candidate I thought would lose. I didn’t vote for the candidate I thought would give me money, or give me a job, or make my life easier.

I voted for the candidate, and the party, that I thought best represents how I believe human beings should treat other human beings, and how that belief can be translated into government policy.

I don’t know if my vote will “count” according to the way some people see the world; but to me, it’s one of the most important things I can do.

Totally agree with you there. Now if we could just convince all the other voters in the country to take that stand. ;)

Wow. That was really insightful and well-written.
