Colour overdose

If you thought that the yellow Bad Penny was bright and colourful, then brace yourself — my latest project brings “colourful” to a whole new level!

It may not surprise you to know that this is not for me — it’s for Mark’s 2-year-old god-daughter, whose mother suggested that a “multicoloured poncho for spring” would be much appreciated. I certainly wasn’t going to turn down the opportunity to have that kind of fun — and just look at the result! The yarn is Paton’s “Melody Quick & Cozy”, colour “Happy Daze”, and it lives up to its name on all counts! I really wasn’t sure about the size (mainly of the collar opening) since I don’t really have a good sense of how big children are at various ages, so I threaded a cord through the neck opening that can tighten it if it’s too big and slipping off. I have no idea if they’ll like it, or if they’ll find it frighteningly bright, but I figure if anyone can love colours like that, it’ll be a little girl. Right?

It’s definitely moving toward spring here, with almost every day above freezing, but there’s still no sign of returning vegetation. Since I’ve given up on it being cold enough again this year for Mark to wear his gansey, I’ve now moved on to waiting impatiently for birds and flowers to return. I want to see our little orchard in full bloom! But it’ll be a while yet, I’m sure. In the meantime, I can amuse myself with the leftovers of the poncho yarn — it’s bright enough to make up for any amount of absent flowers!

I have to say that, regardless of how bright (perfect for a little girl, BTW), I LOVE the way the color pool up!

I knit Emma a jacket out of that exact same yarn and she still wears it even though it’s too small.

And she has a multi-coloured poncho she adores. It will be much loved.

That is one bright cheerful poncho.

What? You are allowing the weather, of all things, dictate what Mark wears? If he loved you, he’d wear it and just boil to death. (It’s possible that if you loved him you wouldn’t want this, but a hand knit sweater!)

Oh! So bright and little girly. I’m sure she will love it. It has all the colours the little girls are wearing.

I have to agree. That’s the most wicked pooling ever!

My eyes! My eyes! ;)

Only a little girl could pull that off. The wood grain-esque pooling is AWESOME.

I LOVE how the yarn ended up in that psychedelic pattern. Now I’m tempted to make up something in that for my niece-in-law.

This is pretty naive, I know, but as a novic knitter, did you close the front by picking up stitches on each side and knitting a band up the middle? (What a cute poncho!)
