Working on small stuff

First, let me say a great big thank-you to everyone who left me such lovely messages. I really appreciate them, and don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll be reading lots of “mummy” stuff here — I’m sure I’d be deluding myself if I thought I’d be able to separate it from other aspects of my life! But I may just keep some of the more private details a little more controlled — also, Mark wants to be able to post about the baby, too, so a separate page would work well.

In the meantime, I’ve finished the crocheted edging for Rosebud, so now I just have to tear Mark away from his conference paper for long enough to get a few modelled photos. I hope I’ll be able to do that tomorrow, since he’ll be off to the conference on Monday. (That’s why he’s working so frantically on the paper!)

I have also been working on a baby sweater — the first official baby clothing. I have a strong feeling it’s too small for any but the smallest newborn (I’ve only sort of followed a pattern… so it’s my fault!), but I’m persevering stubbornly, partly because I only have enough yarn for this size. The yarn is Koigu, two balls given to me by Dani last summer, just before we left Toronto. I’ve been waiting to find something lovely to do with it, since this is (gasp!) the first time I’ve knit with Koigu. I’m definitely enjoying it.

Here’s the rather lumpy state of the sweater right now:

It shouldn’t take too long to finish, and then I’ll see what the actual size is!

It’s so sweet! Even if it only fits at first, you can save it and it will be a special memory for you.

Time to buy a baby sized teddy/doll to try out all your teeny tiny knit projects. ;) I think it’ll be a great memory the baby sweater wether it fits your’s or not. ;)

Awww, I am so happy you found something so special to make! I am sure it will fit for a couple weeks - they are so much smaller then you think they will be when they are newborn!

Wow! I missed that somehow—congratulations! How absolutely wonderful and thrilling and exciting and—well, it’s just peachy keen!

Lovely color…it’s bound to fit at some point, even if it’s for five minutes! One thing I found with Ella at the beginning was that cardigans or kimono-style sweaters were easiest. Newborns and small infants HATE anything being pulled over their heads, and you’ll be in a perpetual froth about that “wobbly neck” thing ;) Looking at this picture though, I’m kind of thinking it should fit reasonably well past the first few weeks, depending on how big Peanut is when they show up.
