Better

Thank you for your birthday wishes, and commiseration! Things have definitely improved since my last post. We managed, after a few more steps, to get our car registered — Mark has even replaced the plates, so we look like we belong in Ontario, finally. The EI stuff seems to be in progress, though it still hasn’t been cleared up. So we’re back to general unpacking and sorting out of the house. I think we don’t have any more moving-related paperwork to go through, though.

And on Wednesday we celebrated my birthday with a lovely dinner on the Danforth with friends, which was very nice. I also received my present from Mark — a whack of books, all fun reading — many of them are children’s books that I wanted to revisit, or have had recommended to me, like Madeleine L’Engle’s “A Swiftly Tilting Planet” and follow-ups, and Susan Cooper’s “The Dark is Rising” series. Also T.H. White’s “The Once and Future King” — I’ve read the first part of it as a separate book (The Sword in the Stone) but never the whole thing. It’s interesting to see how the Sword in the Stone has been re-worked to be integrated into the larger story — the humorous parts have been toned down, and episodes have been moved around and added.

It’s raining today, and will tomorrow as well, so I’m trying to get caught up on email, blogging, and other minor errands, before (hopefully) getting down to my own work, for once!

Still haven’t photographed the house. But we’re having Mark’s sister over on Monday, so we’ll be cleaning up then, and I’ll try to take some pictures. Really! I’ll try…
