Thank you, everyone, for the congratulations. Who knows when I’ll be able to reply to comments individually — but I’ve read every one, and appreciated them all very much.
The first thing I should say is that we won’t be putting as much information about baby here as we might — we may be a little too over-protective, but we’ve decided we don’t want to share every single detail about him with the wide world. Instead, we’ve set up a separate baby blog, which Mark will contribute to as well, which is password-protected. BUT — that doesn’t mean that I don’t want you all to be able to access it! I do — I very much want to share with you, my virtual community. So, if you are interested in having access to our baby blog, all you need to do is email me at aven at cast dot off dot net, and let me know, and I’ll send you the username and password. I admit it might take me a while to get back to everyone, but it will also take us a while to update the blog regularly, so it should even out. And I’m sorry for making it a little more difficult to get to the posts… but I hope you’ll understand that we have to make our own decisions on subjects as personal as a new baby!
However, that’s not to say I’m going to preserve complete secrecy here — I won’t be using baby’s name, and we won’t put up too many pictures here, especially as he gets older. But I will certainly give you the basic details about him now, here!
Baby came into the world at 9:32 am Monday, October 30, after 12 and a half hours of labour. He was 8 lbs, healthy and vigorous, with copious brown hair and amazing alert eyes. He’s home now, and currently squalling in the next room with his grandmaman, who has kindly taken him while I’m posting. He’s been pretty good, really, but we’re not getting much sleep, unsurprisingly! Still, he’s such a love, it’s definitely worth it.
A couple of pictures; here we are on Monday evening, with baby about 10 hours old:
And here he is, getting dressed to go home from the hospital on Tuesday around noon:
I think he’s hungry again, so I’ll have to go… again, thank you, everyone, for being part of this wonderful time for us. I’ll try to be back again soon!

Wow! You guys make beautiful babies!! :-)
Glad all went well and the punkin head is home now. I look forward to baby fodder (and I think you are right to preserve some privacy - smart). You did find Alison’s baby knitting blog, right? bloggybabybumpers.blogspot.com/ Some good information being exchanged on patterns and ideas.
He’s beautiful, Aven! Congratulations to you both
He’s beautiful, Aven, congratulations.
I’m glad I was finally able to post a comment of your blog at last. (Everytime I have been here lately the comments are closed.)
Enjoy your new arrival.
All best wishes.
What a handsome baby boy! Congrats again and best wishes!
Oh, so happy for you!!!!!
Hooray! I’m so glad you’re all doing well, and he is a cutie pie :)
Lord, girl, but is he beautiful! You are sensible to keep the important parts private…not overprotective in the least. Congratulations again, and remember to drink lots of water…nursing takes it out of you FAST.
How exciting!! Your son is beautiful, congratulations!!
What a little love he turned out to be :) So precious. I think the picture of you and Mark looking down at him is awesome. So happy you’re home; hopefully you’ll get more rest once the little guy settles in.
I think you’re perfectly right not to share too much information with people you don’t know or have never heard of before. It’s good to keep that safety chain on the door :)
Both of you are looking very well and baby is just too sweet.
Congratulations to the grandparents as well on their new little grandson.
Hey Aven - Just wanted to say congrats and cheers from Sackville! He’s absolutely beautiful! We miss you at the S&B but I’m so glad to read you’re doing well and your little one has arrived safely. Welcome to motherhood!
Wow! He is one handsome little guy!
congratulations. I’m so happy everyone is healthy and happy and doing well.
Is it a Baby yet……………yes!
well done. Cheers.
Awwww! He is lovely, so alert too. Denny took the words right out of my mind.. “Is it a Baby yet?” Yes! Congratulations again.
What a super cute baby. He is adorable!
Congratulations! He’s beautiful.
thanks for the update.
Enjoy every minute of it!
Congrats on the baby! We were so excited to get the email the other day. It would be great to see the baby-blog, as well, so when you get some time, we’d love to have a username and password.

Congrats Aven - he is so beautiful.
Oh my Oh my- what a lovely baby!!!!!!!! He is sooooooo alert! Great work, you guys- congratulations!!!! And I do understand your desire for some privacy and protection for him- it is what mommies and daddies were built to do-make safe and happy places for sweet babies-
Aw how cute! Totally understandable about the baby blogging. Although I think you just don’t want to admit Mark named him. ;)
Oh Aven, he is soooo cute! Congratulations!
Aven, he’s lovely. I’ve seen a lot of babies and that one is top notch. Call or email if you need anything at all. (You know my specialities.)
Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy. And what a beautiful family photo too. I agree with your keeping some privacy. I don’t use my family’s real names on my blog either. All the best!
Aven, he is lovely. The most beautiful WIP you will ever work on. Blessings to your whole family. Cheers.
Aven - Congratulations - I’m a little behind the times in reading blog posts, but I suspect you’re probably quite busy right now anyway!
Your son is beautiful. In the photo he looks like he’s 3 months old - not just a day. Perhaps he’s an old soul.
Please give him a kiss from the east coast from me and all the girls at “Knitting Out Loud” (the Halifax SnB).
Your son is very handsome and your family is more perfect with the darling baby. True blessings to you all.
